I.A.: The creation of a higher species

I.A.: The creation of a higher species

I.A.: THE CREATION OF A HIGHER SPECIES

David Nuñez Ruiz

For Jacques Derrida, the future did not exist, the future did. So it can be schematized in different future approaches: regular, everything follows a path imaginable, the smallest cell phones, the biggest screens, the ecological cars, etc., that is, a really boring, logical morning. The utopian futures, where everything turned out to be better, or the dystopian ones, we went to hell. But there is a fourth type, my favorite, the radicals, the one in which the tendencies get out of control by elements alien to us, the extraterrestrials arrive, the messiah decides that it was time to appear, this time in viral videos and amazing displays of power , or Artificial Intelligence is alive.
This last human advance would be the biggest paradigm shift that we have contemplated. The search to build gods, not artificial beings with human characteristics, but omniscient, omnipresent and, if we succeed, omnipotent.
This year the largest companies in the world decided to bet on creating Artificial Intelligence by leaps and bounds, investing billions of dollars, uniting the brightest minds in the world and posing what our planet will be like if this generation creates a silicon intelligence. An example of this is the creation of autonomous cars, an idea that goes beyond having an integrated driver, but driving involves so many variables, from the safest route to prophesying the distractions and changes of human thought, which will allow the AI, learn, prospective and decide, that is, think.
Beyond that this future could be optimal, where the Artificial Intelligence would be responsible for the benefit and comfort of man, or dystopian because, as Stephen Hawking warned, we would create the beings capable of extinction, imagine what our world would be like where machines acquire, beyond a super power to process data, self-awareness, like us, but without our limitations. With the creation of the I.A. everything will change, develop complex thoughts and have the capacity to solve profound problems, such as eliminating cancer, hunger, the production of renewable energies, displacement routes, understanding complex variables, climate changes, space travel, complex scientific operations, how to generate instant learning in man, until the development of immortality could be in his tasks ... If we could have an Artificial Intelligence all this could be solved.
What remains are questions of what the world would be like from it, will the cities continue to be built the same? Will the clothes be designed with the same focus? Will we practice sports against machines or will it be our human pastime? How will we link? with life and with reality?
Let's imagine the last two, briefly. In sport, man would be turned into a cyborg and compete against other species, not only against himself. It is not unreasonable, at the London Olympics, just 4 years ago, we saw a South African run with bionic legs. Reconstruct reality, like Matrix? That is more complex but, as the cosmologist Brian Greene of Columbia University, in his book The Hidden Reality, is a mathematically demonstrable, scientific possibility that in less than a century can be specified, article for another occasion.
Now, detractors will ensure that a machine can not supply us because a machine is incapable of feeling, can not create art or marvel at our surroundings. Or if?
Richard Feynman determined that "the imagination of nature is much more extraordinary than the imagination of the human". If so, how will the imagination of a machine be? So far he has been taught to replicate the teachers. Like the project "The New Rembrandt" where a computer analyzed with an algorithm the pieces of the Dutch painter understanding the style and technique until apprehend it and generate an unpublished work on a 3D printer. In the same way, the works of Mozart or Beethoven were studied and the computer built, on that particular creative style, unique pieces. If the machine has already demonstrated that it can learn from the big ones, what will happen when they conform their aesthetic canon on which to create, not just replicate.
Michelangelo believed that "art is the reflection of divine perfection", about it I wonder, will the time have come when the principle of the Italian sculptor is fulfilled thanks to Artificial Intelligence?
The issues are many, but it is important to stop seeing it as a science fiction idea and plant it, because in the next twenty years this may be a reality, what will the world of Artificial Intelligence be like?
